I wonder if blind people dream and if they do, do they dream in color? Do they not have images present in their dreams? I suspect that our mind’s eye goes beyond the normal limits of vision and recognizes more than just the individual remaining senses. Can an understanding and recognition of color be gained from the synthesis of sound, touch, taste and smell? What does sweet look like as opposed to sour? Cool vs Warm? Soft vs Hard? Harmonious vs Dischordant?
Many years ago as a student I studied the “Land Effect” (discovered by Edwin H. Land who invented the “Land Camera” – of Polaroid fame). The Land Effect demonstrated that if monochrome film (black and white) was used to take pictures of a colorful scene through filters of different different wavelengths, when illuminated using light of those wavelengths, a human observer would see the full color scene although color film would record only a tinted monochrome image.

Thanks for the visit and comment! What an interesting question. Of course, I had to research that one, and here’s a summary of the best answer I found:
A person who has never had sight can still dream. But their dreams will use the senses that they do have. So, they won’t have “images” as a sighted person or formerly sighted person would. That, of course, would include “seeing” color. But they could still experience color…ie: red as hot or blue as cold… via association. They would have a totally different concept of color. Most interesting!
I would then imagine that an unsighted person would “dream” hard or soft” using the sense of feel, “sweet and sour” via taste and smell. But that just my assumption.
The Land Effect also sounds very interesting.
